MUSIC MINISTRY

Music is an integral part of our parish liturgies and is provided at all weekend Masses. The Music Ministry is called to “assist the assembled believers to express and share the gift of faith that is within them and to nourish and strengthen their interior commitment of faith” (from Music in Catholic Worship). Our ministry relies on parishioners who share their musical gifts with the parish. Our Music Ministry consists of the following:

St. Michael Choir: Choir rehearsals are on Wednesdays from 7-8:30 p.m. during the school year (Sept through May) and the choir is open to high school students and adults. Members of the choir are able to choose the Mass time they sing at each weekend Church of St. Michael

Joyful Light Children’s Choir: The children’s choir is open to all children in the parish in grades 2-4 with unchanged voices. Joyful Light rehearses on Thursdays from 5:00-5:45 p.m. from September through Easter. They sing at the 4:00 p.m. Christmas Eve Mass (combined with Radiant Light), one of the Easter Masses, 1st Reconciliation, and various other Masses throughout the year. Our season “kick off” is a fun mini-choir camp. Fourth graders in the choir also have the opportunity to attend an overnight Choir Camp at a YMCA camp each fall with the Radiant Light Youth Choir
.
Radiant Light Youth Choir: The youth choir is open to all youth in the parish in grades 5-8 with unchanged voices. Radiant Light rehearses on Thursdays from 6 6:45PM from September through Easter. They sing at the 4PM Christmas Eve Mass (combined with Joyful Light), one of the Easter Masses, other liturgical services throughout the year, and various Masses throughout the year. The choir attends an overnight Choir Camp at a YMCA camp each fall.

 • St. Michael Teen Choir: The teen choir is open to all teens in grades 9-12. Teen choir sings at a Mass once every few months (approximately 4-5 times per year) and there is one rehearsal before each time they sing. Membership is especially flexible for teens. The only requirement is that they attend the rehearsal directly before the Mass at which they sing.

Joyful and Radiant Light Parent Committee: Parents of choristers serve on the parent committee and aid with the organization of both choirs (registration, rosters, car pooling lists, choir handbook, music library, mailings, etc), scheduling, coordinate parent volunteers, and planning events throughout the year (camps, choir parties, and other events).

Cantors: Cantors are experienced singers who help lead our song at Mass. Adults, in addition to experienced children and youth from Joyful and Radiant Light choirs, serve as cantors. If you have been gifted with a beautiful singing voice, please consider sharing your gift!

Instrumentalists: Instrumentalists play at various Masses throughout the year, some on a regular basis and others periodically. We utilize a wide variety of instrumentation: keyboard, guitar, bass, drums, percussion, woodwinds, strings, brass, etc. We currently are in need of auxiliary percussionists, additional drummers, strings and brass. If you have experience playing an instrument, please consider sharing your gift!
